Social Emotional Health Survey
The CoVitality social and emotional health survey (SEHS) was developed using federal grant funding at the Institute of Education Sciences. SEHS is an application of the world’s best social science research to assess the mental health and emotional well-being of all students using a strengths-based approach. It is a research-validated screening tool that uses a dual factor mental health model to provide a complete picture of mental health at both an individual student level and a school wide and district level.

Why CoVitality is Special
There are significant benefits in assessing student mental health and providing SEL programming during their formative years
Academic Gains
The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) provides national data to support the importance of embedding social and emotional development in schools. Data meta-analysis indicated that students receiving high-quality SEL instruction have achievement scores on an average of 11 percentile points higher than students who did not receive SEL instruction
Long lasting Positive Life Outcomes
SEL benefits continue long after graduation. An Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) study revealed that the absence of SEL correlated with unfavorable outcomes such as increase unemployment, divorce, poor health, criminal behavior, and imprisonment
Lifelong Return on Investment
Columbia University researchers have found that for every dollar invested in SEL programming there is an $11 return in long-term benefits. These benefits include reduced juvenile crime, higher lifetime earnings, and better mental and physical health
Strengthens Resiliency and Coping Skills
Social-emotional learning teaches young students how to cope with everyday disappointments as well as the deep cuts of trauma. For the most at-risk students, who live in poverty and/or who may witness or experience traumatic experiences, SEL is an extraordinary tool for repairing the damage and for building lifetime coping skills
